Boeuf Restaurant – Affordable Steakhouse in Telok Ayer, Singapore

Boeuf restaurant is a place which focuses on beef dishes. This steakhouse in Telok Ayer, the heart of Singapore’s CBD has a Google review rating of 4.4 and is a specialised place for steak but with prices that ordinary patrons can afford.

The journey to Boeuf Restaurant on a weekday was a challenging one. Heavy traffic getting into the Shenton Way area, limited parking (mostly along the Amoy / Telok Ayer roads) made us almost want to give up our reservation. Fortunately a nice parking lot was vacated when we were at the right place and time. Unless we are in the area, we would make any future visit to the restaurant on a weekend when the Singapore financial district is quiet.

Little Steakhouse in the CBD

Boeuf is a small restaurant. With the narrow shape of a typical shophouse, the tables were lined up along the walls. It has a dark, broody look that steakhouses tend to have. It was a full house when we arrived (picture above). But the crowd soon cleared as the time approached the end of lunch hour. It was nice and peaceful in the second half of our meal (picture below).

Boeuf Restaurant Menu

Here are pictures of the Boeuf Restaurant menu. On weekdays, they feature a $29.90++ set lunch menu and happy hour lasts from 12 to 5 pm. On weekends they offer a free-flow ribeye meal – $48++ for 1.5 hours. Sounds like a good deal for beef eaters with a healthy appetite.

According to its website, diners “… can discover different breeds and cuts of beef – from Grass Fed Australian Sirloin to Argentinian Aberdeen Black Angus to Miyazaki Wagyu from Japan. Enjoy a range of beef preparations – from beef tartar to dry aged beef to charcoal grilled prime ribs.” In addition to the usual steak items, the a la carte menu has a nice range of beef items including Wagyu tartare and slow cooked Beef Bourguignon.

Steak Lunch at Boeuf Restaurant Singapore

We ordered two steaks. The first was the Signature Dry Aged Ribeye ($99, picture below). This was a 400 g piece of Australian Black Angus Ribeye MB5 which had undergone 30 days of dry aging. This steak is meant to be shared by 2 diners and was certainly large enough. We like its taste and tender texture. At a cost of about $50 per person, we think it is a fair price.

Our other steak was a 200g ribeye ($32, picture below). This was an Argentinean Aberdeen Black Angus MB2 300+ days grass fed. This steak was done medium rare and we liked the result. It was soft and juicy inside with a nice crusty char on the outside. Both steaks had a nice smoky aroma when they arrived. The steak version of ‘wok-hei’ perhaps.

Starters and Sides

We also tried a selection of appetisers and side dishes at Boeuf Restaurant. The bone marrow ($18 for half) is something worth trying. The fatty marrow goes very well with bread.

The $99 Signature Dry Aged Ribeye comes with a choice of side dish and sauce. We selected the sautéed mushrooms and were happy with this decision.

Our other sides were hand-cut fries ($9) and roasted garlic ($7). The fries provided a distraction from all the meat which the garlic can enhance the flavour of the beef.

Overall, it was a pleasant steak lunch at Boeuf Restaurant in Telok Ayer, Singapore. Since it was happy hour we also had beer ($10) with our meal. Cheers!
