The tourist city of Da Nang, central Vietnam, is expected to welcome 402,000 visitor arrivals during the week-long Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday starting last Thursday, an increase of 37 percent over the same period last year, local tourism authorities reported.

Of the total number of arrivals, nearly 177,000 were international travelers, the  municipal Department of Tourism said on Tuesday.

The period, from February 8 to 14, has also seen the city receive a total of 777 domestic and international flights in estimation, averaging out at 111 flights, including 58 local and 53 international flights, per day.

Frequent self-guided travelers accounted for 60-70 percent of the total number of visitors to the city and they arrived mainly from February 11-14.

Travelers to Da Nang mainly stayed at 4-, 5-star and equivalent hotels along the coast.

Domestic tourists were mainly those from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang’s vicinities such as Quang Nam, Thua Thien Hue and Quang Ngai Provinces, while international visitors included those from South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, the U.S. and Australia, among others.

The Rong (Dragon) Bridge was among the most attractive destinations for travelers, who arrived to take photos with the dragon mascots, as this Lunar New Year is the Year of the Dragon.

Meanwhile, the number of locals and tourists participating in the Han River cruise experience was higher than in previous years, as recorded by Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reporters.

The river drew a total of about 21,000 visitors, an increase of 50 percent from last year’s Tet, according to the tourist department.

The Da Nang City Travel Association attributed the increasing attraction of the Han River to many factors, including the effective development of waterway tourism, with many tourist routes as well as new high-class cruise ships having been made available.

Many other well-known destinations in the city also welcomed a large number of visitors during the week-long Tet break, according to the department.

Ba Na Hills Sun World resort lured more than 82,000 travelers, an increase of 8 percent against the 2023 Tet, while Asia Park and Ngu Hanh Son (Marble Mountains) site – a special national relic – correspondingly attracted some 35,000 and 40,000 visitors, up 16 and 31 percent, respectively.

In addition, Son Tra peninsula, Mikazuki Water Park and Than Tai Mountain Hot Springs Park served some 70,000, 11,000 and 8,000 travelers, respectively, with the corresponding increases of 57, 50 and 44 percent.
