issho izakaya One Fullerton is a waterfront casual Japanese drinking establishment with a comprehensive food menu. In addition to refined omakase menu and a la carte menu, the restaurant overlooking Marina Bay also serves affordable weekday lunch sets.
issho izakaya
The traditional izakaya is a casual Japanese drinking establishment which also serves food. When we visited issho izakaya at Sports Hub about a decade ago, we found that there was a great emphasis on drinks in issho izakaya but it also had an extensive food menu. The formula must have worked. Although the outlet at Sports Hub has closed, issho izakaya now operates in SingPost Centre and Great World. It also has an outlet in a prime waterfront location at One One Fullerton.
issho izakaya One Fullerton has an outdoor seating area which overlooks Marina Bay and offers a great view of the iconic Marina Bay Sands.
The interior is quite spacious and has a simple Japanese modern design with attractive wall arts. There are private dining rooms and traditional tatami rooms.
The menu book of issho izakaya One Fullerton is big and thick – with almost 40 pages. The first quarter of the menu book is dedicated to beverages – ranging from fizzy houji tea and cocktails to beer, shochu and sake. The food menu includes sushi, sashimi, yakimono, kushiyaki, yakiniku, soba, donburi and desserts.
Set Lunch at issho izakaya One Fullerton
On weekdays, issho izakaya One Fullerton offers set lunch, currently priced from $25.80 to $32.80. We ordered the Yakiniku & Tempura Set, Tori Teriyaki & Tempura Set and Tempura & Sushi Set.
Each of the sets included salad, chawanmushi and miso soup. The side dishes were of good standard. The tempura items were nicely done with light crisp batter. The prawn tempura had a crunchy outside and tender sweet inside.
The Tempura & Sushi Set included hand-pressed sushi such as scallop, seabream, salmon and tuna.
Both the teriyaki glazed chicken and pork yakinuku were flavourful and very palatable. The portion size was fairly generous.
Overall, the lunch sets were wholesome and comforting.
Sashimi & Maki
We are had a couple of items from the a la carte menu.
issho izakaya’s Akami or wild caught tuna ($19.90) came in 5 thick slices. The sashimi was fresh and tasted very good. The California maki roll ($18.80) looked good and was a harmonious balance of creamy avocado, sweetish crabmeat and cool cucumber – very enjoyable.
Affordable Lunch at Prime Location
Dining at a prime waterfront restaurant in the CBD can be a luxurious and costly experience. For ordinary patrons without generous corporate expense accounts, issho izakaya One Fullerton offers a compelling option. It has a prime location at the water’s edge and serves delightful, reasonably priced food. The affordable weekday set lunch is a good value deal.
