On March 5, a representative from Room to Read, an NGO that focuses on education, announced that they would be partnering with Warner Bros Discovery to showcase the “She Creates Change” short film series on International Women’s Day in 2024. This animated and documentary film series will be produced in six countries, including Vietnam. Each film will depict how girls use life skills learned from Room to Read classes to tackle their challenges, such as responding to sexual harassment, fighting child marriages, mitigating climate change, and improving their family’s economic situation through creative means such as YouTube channels.

In Vietnam, the documentary will feature Nguyen Thuy Trang, a former Room to Read student from the Tra On district, Vinh Long. Growing up in a poor farming family, Trang created humorous and emotional videos about her friendship with her duck, Bim Bim, and other content about life in southwest Vietnam. After posting these videos on YouTube’s Deep TV channel, she received support from viewers, earning her the YouTube Silver Button when she was only 20 years old. Her videos have since helped improve her family’s economic situation.

The series of six short films, including Trang’s story, will premiere at 8 PM (Vietnam time) on March 8, March 15, and March 22, 2024, on the Discovery Asia channel in Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, China, Taiwan, Mongolia, and on TLC and Discovery+ India channels in Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.

Geetha Murali, CEO of Room to Read, said that the partnership with Warner Bros Discovery will help the “She Creates Change” project reach around 432 million girls worldwide. By seeing how other female students use life skills to overcome their challenges and shape their future, girls will become more confident in unlocking their potential and changing their lives. This is the goal of Room to Read’s programs, to support and inspire female students to change the world, just like Thuy Trang did.
