Choice Hotels International, a leading global hotel franchising company, has entered into a partnership with Tesla to provide Tesla Universal Wall Connectors at select Radisson, Cambria, Comfort, Country Inn & Suites, Quality Inn, and other hotels under the Choice brand throughout the United States. This initiative allows Choice-affiliated hotels to install at least four electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, addressing the increasing need for EV charging facilities and enhancing the travel experience for EV owners on business or leisure trips.
“This agreement with Tesla allows our brands to further stand out by increasing access to EV charging for guests and potentially drive incremental topline revenue for hotel owners,” said Dominic Dragisich, Executive Vice President of Operations and Chief Global Brand Officer for Choice Hotels International. “At Choice, we are focused on ensuring owners and operators of our hotel brands are set up to benefit from strategic agreements that drive booking consideration and value.”
With a portfolio of over 7,500 hotels and more than 630,000 rooms across 46 countries and territories, Choice Hotels International is well-equipped to meet the rising demand for electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities. In 2022, 82% of all room nights at Choice hotels were booked by guests who arrived by car, a figure significantly higher than the industry norm, as per DK Shifflet data. The majority of Choice’s U.S. properties are strategically located in suburban, interstate, and small-town areas, with 76% of them within one mile of a highway, enhancing accessibility for travelers.
At present, 41% of Choice’s upscale Cambria hotels feature EV charging stations. By the end of 2024, it is anticipated that every Cambria hotel will be equipped with at least one EV charging station, responding to guests’ sustainability expectations, with EV charging being among their top three priorities. Moreover, several Choice corporate offices, including those in North Bethesda, Maryland, and Scottsdale, Arizona, already provide EV charging options.
The ChoiceHotels.com website and the Choice Hotels mobile app, both of which have received high marks for user satisfaction, offer a convenient filter for locating hotels equipped with EV charging. Furthermore, holders of Choice’s co-branded credit cards can benefit from increased rewards when using EV charging stations at Choice hotels. Specifically, Choice Privileges Select Mastercard holders will earn five times the points, and Choice Privileges Mastercard holders will earn three times the points on qualifying EV charging station purchases.
