Clothing stores, cosmetics shops, and eateries along major shopping streets in Hanoi were bustling with shoppers from the afternoon until midnight on Friday during the peak shopping season for the Lunar New Year holiday, or Tet.

The shops along Cau Giay, Chua Boc, Pham Ngoc Thach streets were overwhelmed with a huge number of shoppers, mostly young people.

Dinh Tung Lam, aged 19, and a group of his friends visited a men’s clothing store on Cau Giay Street to buy some new outfits before these five rowers return to their hometowns to enjoy Tet.

Phuong Chi, aged 21, who was seen carrying around five shopping bags on the street, revealed that she had purchased lots of clothes and beauty products, including some winter outfits to cope with the existing chilly weather in northern Vietnam.

When asked why she opted for offline shopping instead of online shopping, Chi replied that offline shopping allowed her to try the products before making a purchase, while she may receive lower-than-expected items through online shopping.

Thanks to this busiest shopping season of the year, retailers and traders have increased their sales significantly.

According to some shop owners on Chua Boc Street, their sales over the past few days rose three- to fourfold compared to normal days.

The sales surge in these days was attributed to a certain number of shoppers who have received their salaries and bonus payments for Tet.
