MGM Resorts International, listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker MGM, has achieved notable recognition for its commitment to environmental transparency and its efforts to combat climate change from the respected environmental organization CDP, earning a spot on the coveted A List.

Among over 23,000 evaluated entities, MGM Resorts distinguished itself by securing one of the 347 top ‘A’ ratings, showcasing its exceptional performance in environmental disclosure, risk management, and leadership. This places the company among the elite 0.015% in terms of reporting standards. The criteria for this high grading include thorough reporting, active engagement in environmental risk management, and adopting leading practices in environmental stewardship.

“Our inclusion on the CDP A List is a testament to the strategic importance we place on sustainability,” said Jyoti Chopra, Chief People, Inclusion and Sustainability Officer at MGM Resorts. “Environmental stewardship is more important than ever, and we remain committed to being leaders in creating long-lasting positive impacts on our planet and in our local communities.”

Sherry Madera, CEO of CDP added: “Earning a place on the A List is about more than the score. It’s an indication of high quality, complete data that equips companies with a holistic view of their environmental impact, serves as a baseline for transition plans and – crucially – enables them to follow through on their ambitions. As we move deeper into the Decade of Action, and as CDP continually raises the bar for what represents environmental leadership, the work of A List companies is never complete. We look forward to seeing all companies turn their commitments into further and more meaningful and effective action.”

Key factors contributing to MGM Resorts’ top-tier ‘A’ rating for climate action include:

  • A dedicated board-level committee on Corporate Social Responsibility & Sustainability, led by a renowned advocate for clean energy.
  • Adoption of emissions reduction targets aligned with the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), aiming to meet the ambitious goals of the Paris Agreement.
  • The installation of nearly 110 megawatts of solar energy capacity, highlighted by the groundbreaking MGM Resorts Mega Solar Array, which supplies up to 90% of the company’s daytime electricity demand in Las Vegas.
  • A significant decrease in carbon emissions intensity, dropping by 49.5% from 2007 to 2022, thanks to effective energy efficiency initiatives and the expansion of renewable energy sources.
  • Comprehensive climate-related data reporting, with third-party verification of Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions and energy consumption.

Additionally, MGM Resorts has achieved an ‘A-‘ grade in water security, reflecting its:

  • Proactive water stewardship strategy to manage water usage within its operations and promote conservation within the community.
  • Establishment of a Global Water Policy to formalize and share its commitment to water conservation.
  • Successful reduction of water withdrawals by 13.9 billion gallons from 2007 to 2022 in its U.S. facilities.
  • Initiatives to tackle local water challenges, such as the conversion of over 200,000 square feet of turf to water-efficient landscaping in Southern Nevada.
  • Improvements in water usage reporting and the assurance of data on water withdrawals.
  • Integration of water conservation metrics into the criteria for executive remuneration, underlining its commitment to social impact and sustainability objectives.

MGM Resorts is dedicated to fostering an eco-friendly future, recognizing the significant implications of climate change for businesses, individuals, and the globe.
